Telewest/NTL Shrug Off BTs BB Voice

Updated with NTL comment. Cable operator Telewest has shrugged off BTs new broadband based voice calls (VoIP) offer to cable modem users as "hype" and that "consumers will soon realise the limitations of this offering.".
Matthew Dearden, director of telephony at Telewest Broadband, said: "Over 90 per cent of our blueyonder broadband customers recognise the unbeatable value and convenience of combining their internet access with a phone line and/or digital TV services from Telewest Broadband."
A spokesperson for NTL Home, said: "While we're flattered at how seriously BT is taking the threat from cable, their new service is extremely limited and, as usual, they have cherry-picked figures across the cable sector to try and make their case."
