It appears as if several ISPs, including Pipex and
Clara.net, were hit by radius (authentication) server problems yesterday. The issues affected ADSL subscribers, preventing new connections and lasting for a couple of hours.
It's unconfirmed whether all the issues were related, although they did appear to occur within the same space of time as BT's proxy radius authentication platform suffered a failure (the one that hit
Clara.net).
From what we can tell the issues started around 10:40am yesterday and continued until just after midday.
