The European Commission has hinted that it's now likely to approve Scottish Enterprises broadband project, which aims to subsidise broadband phone links to business parks:
European competition commissioner Mario Monti is investigating SEs flagship Project Atlas scheme to subsidise broadband phone links to business parks. Glasgow telecoms company Thus lodged a complaint with the EC last year stating the project would compete with existing services.
Elizabeth Holt, the head of the European Commission in Scotland, suggested that the EC would come down on SEs side. She said: "The commission views favourably the additional provision of broadband for business. We have a favourable bias towards the idea."
Sources linked to the inquiry said that Scottish Enterprise had re-drafted its original plan at least once in order to get it past the ECs Competition Commission.More @
