THUS Brings Hi-Speed To The Scouts

Posted: 13th Apr, 2004 By: MarkJ
THUS has launched an affinity marketing deal to promote Demon Internet's broadband ADSL service to members of the Scout Association. Could this be a chance for the younger generation to earn that all important 'broadband' badge?:

THUS plc today launched an affinity marketing programme with The Scout Association to help bring the benefits of broadband to its members. The programme will promote THUS's Demon Broadband and Dial-Up Internet services to the Association's 500,000 members and their family and friends. For every customer that signs up to The Scout Association Demon Broadband or Demon Standard Dial-Up package, THUS will make a donation to Scouting to help it improve and expand the services it offers young people.

"Every week more than 400,000 young people take part in the various activities and personal development opportunities to help them achieve their full potential. We see the Internet playing an important role in young people's development in today's environment, and we encourage our members to use it safely and responsibly. Members of Scouting use the Internet regularly when researching the various action packed activities that they undertake each week. Broadband enables them to do their research at the fast pace they are used to living," commented James Wren, Head of Membership Services, The Scout Association.

"We chose to work with THUS to offer our members Demon services because we consider it to be a responsible provider that offers a high quality service. We believe that the Association and our members stand to benefit greatly from our relationship with THUS."

"Broadband and Dial-Up Internet services open up a whole world of possibilities for young people and their families. We are delighted to be working with an organisation as prestigious and trusted as the Scout Association to promote the educational and social benefits of broadband and the Internet," explained Nigel Stevens, Product Director, THUS plc.

"We believe that Demon Broadband services will support the Association's aim to encourage young people to become more involved and included in society through education and activity."

The services, which will be co-branded by THUS's Demon brand and the Scout Association, will initially be promoted on the Scout Association website (www.scouts.org.uk), via a direct link to a jointly-branded page on the Demon website with service descriptions (www.demon.net/scouts/). Promotion will follow across a range of marketing tools, including print adverts in the Association's membership magazine 'Scouting', flyer distribution to members and seminars at local Scouting events, where THUS will present to Scout members on safe use of the Internet, drawing on its experience working with young people through the Surrey police initiative, "Junior Citizen".

THUS is offering Scout Association members, family and friends a choice of Broadband or Dial-Up access, both of which include webmail, technical support, unlimited spam filtered e-mail addresses, static IP address and web space. Customers can upgrade from Dial-Up to Broadband without changing their e-mail address.
