Zen Internet has expanded its product portfolio with the introduction of Shared SQL Hosting (online database):
Zen Internet launches new Shared SQL Hosting
Internet service provider Zen Internet today expanded its hosting portfolio with the launch of new Shared SQL Hosting. The service enables customers to create, manage and maintain their own Microsoft SQL database, running on a Zen server at the company's purpose-built Internet Data Centre, offering world-class connectivity and first-tier access to consistently high quantity bandwidth. The server maintains multiple customer databases, and each is separate and distinct. As a Microsoft Partner, Zen Internet is able to offer the full version of the service as a dedicated resource for the more serious database user, with no set up fee.
The service is aimed at those customers running large databases, or databases that handle significant numbers of queries, who are looking for integration with MS Windows-based hosting technologies using ASP, .NET and IIS. The scalable solution, which will be available from £300 per year, features Microsoft SQL Server 2000, no bandwidth limitations (there is unlimited data transfer of traffic between Web server and shared SQL server), and comes with 50Mb of upgradeable space.
Ian Buckley, marketing manager at Zen Internet, said: "There are very few products of this kind currently available, and we believe that this solution, backed by consistently high standards of Zen services, will meet a real need in the marketplace."
Customers using Microsoft SQL database can update and change data in real time, without the need to download and upload entire database files after modifications. The service also provides scalability and, especially compared to the usual cut-down versions typically available with shared hosting packages (Access, MySQL), is more robust and offers better performance when handling queries and updates.
Zen offers similar solutions for low end users maintaining small databases of less than 15Mb, or low activity databases. MS Access is supported in the MS Windows environment, and Unix users have access to MySQL operating on Cobalt RAQs.
Zen Internet offers the Shared SQL Hosting solution with a minimum contract of only one month, no set-up fees, and provides up and running service within four hours of ordering. Pricing depends on database quotas, and ranges from £25/month for 50Mb up to £250/month for 5000Mb.
