Micronet ISP Expands Satellite Services

Posted: 15th Apr, 2004 By: MarkJ
UK broadband satellite ISP Micronet Broadband has expanded its range of services. Broadband TV, new access options and off-line e-mail checking are among the extras:

New home packages

In addition to our 1mbit service on the W3 satellite, we have now secured capacity on the all-new e-bird satellite allowing users to receive Sky Tv and broadband through the same dish and as with all our packages they are easy to setup and understand, we call these packages 1-dish packages and unlike the W3 satellite a separate dish is not is needed, the 1-dish packages have 2 tiers of service, the 1-dish basic up to 512k service, and the 1-dish unlimited up to 1mbit service which does not have any download limits but heavy users are offered dependable speeds after they have downloaded very high amount of data (dependable speeds are still extremely fast on the e-bird satellite because it still is not very populated with users) .

Push Service

All packages now come free with a multicast satellite push service, that offer unlimited set scheduled downloads offline at up to speed of 4mbits, users can request content but no guarantees are made to fulfil the requests.

Broadband TV

With an additional subscription fee (£3 a month, we are reviewing this) users can enjoy offline multicast broadband TV via satellite, popular channels include Eurosport, MTV and Euronews.

E-alert (coming soon)

Users can check their e-mails offline, via simple mail notifications

New Office Packages

We have also introduced packages on the e-bird and w3 satellites designed just for the office that offer fast speeds and capacity to suit every kind of office and business user, packages start from just £24.99 a month for a 512k service but there is many packages to choose from including a unlimited service offering speeds of up to 2mbits.

8 box plug and play Satellite router

To go with our office packages, we have introduced a special satellite router made by an Italian company designed specially for the Open-sky service and offers many exciting features, its main use is that it is so easy and fast to install a whole broadband network using a simple web interface, it also offers the option of Multicast content were users can have specific files and information broadcast (sent) to you at a particular time, and you and your staff can download the content at a guaranteed average speed of 2-4mbits a second, an example of this would be a company training video, you would lets say ask for the video to be sent at 09:30am, everyone who wants to download the video on to their machine will click on a button to request the download just before 09:30am and download the Video at 2-4Mbits, there is no limit to the content you can send although there is an extra charge for this particular service.

The router also makes the managing of the broadband network easier by eliminating the need for single client configurations, 1-device 1-configuration. It also has many optional features including w-fi, firewall, accounting model for cyber cafés, access point, built in ISDN modem and much much more, check out our office website for more info.

How we deal with the satellite capacity issue (managing satellite without slowing the whole service and putting “caps” on heavy users)

Our packages are low cost, easy to understand and install and are designed for frequent and heavy broadband users alike. frequent browsers and occasional downloader’s can enjoy a extremely low cost and quality service while heavy downloader’s are accommodated with the option of buying low cost capacity as and when they need it which can be used any time throughout their subscription (carry on unused bytes to the following month) so they can also enjoy a quality service with low monthly price that does not put harsh caps the download speed, or even heavier downloader’s have the option of our unlimited service on the e-bird satellite that does not have a set capacity limit but after a certain amount of heavy downloading offers dependable not guaranteed speeds (the dependable speeds are still extremely good on the e-bird satellite), never the less user will not expect any harsh “speed caps”, or e-mails saying you have used the service too much with any of our packages.

We are also at the moment offering free activation on all our packages (home and office)
