UK ISP Pipex has issued a new press release promoting its own server-side solution for preventing virus infections - MailDefender:
Traditional anti-virus software fails to safeguard data
Organisations that continue to use traditional anti-virus software that updates weekly or daily are failing to safeguard their data, warns PIPEX, the telecom network operator and provider of business broadband solutions.
PIPEX believes that in order to safeguard their data, organisations need to deploy network-based anti-virus solutions that check for updates from the Internet every five minutes, rather than rely on the desktop hardware solutions alone.
Permanently scanning inbound and outbound emails for both potential and known viruses, live Internet anti-virus solutions block all infected and suspect email away from an organisations network, thus reducing any further risk of infection. This ensures that immediate action can be taken against new viruses. Users of hardware solutions typically experience gaps in protection up until the virus has been identified and a new patch has been written. In addition, it is still the organisations responsibility to manually update the anti-virus solution.
PIPEXs anti-virus solution, MailDefender, is specifically designed to stop email-born viruses. Incorporating a heuristic scanner and the renowned Sophos engine, Mail Defender not only quarantines all infected and suspect email, but also notifies the sender and recipient of inbound emails. With outbound emails, the sender is notified only, avoiding unnecessary contact with a potential recipient.
Jeremy Penston, Product Director, PIPEX, comments, According to the ICT there are 700 new viruses appearing every month. These viruses pose a real and current threat to businesses and can ultimately damage an organisations bottom line and tarnish its reputation.
Penston continues, To safeguard their data, organisations need complete reassurance that there are no weaknesses and unprotected computer networks across their business.
As part of the MailDefender range PIPEX also provides an anti-spam product that reduces the amount of junk emails received by a company, estimated to account for 50% of all Internet traffic. Rather than using a blanket approach that many less sophisticated anti-spam services use, MailDefender configures itself automatically to an organisations individual needs. This reduces the amount of genuine emails that are incorrectly classified as spam.
PIPEX also offers a range of managed and unmanaged security solutions which are designed to address customers specific needs regardless of the size or type of the organisation.
PIPEXs unmanaged Firewalls prevent unauthorised access to private resources, controlling what users can access outside of the local area network. Alternatively managed Firewalls can help customers to save time and money, providing additional security assurance. Accredited security experts are assigned to work around the clock to ensure firewall configuration is continually up-to-date.
