Waitrose Launch Broadband ADSL

Posted: 11th Jun, 2004 By: MarkJ
The popular supermarket chain Waitrose has expanded its existing ISP services to include a rather pricy 512Kbps broadband ADSL product for £27.99 per month. However, the connection is free and the modem half price:

WAITROSE.COM BROADBAND, HIGH SPEED ACCESS WITH A CONSCIENCE

Following its success as an online Internet Service Provider, and responding to its existing customer’s demand, Waitrose will today (7th June 2004) become the first UK supermarket to operate a full High Speed Broadband ISP. Waitrose.com Broadband is a unique service offering users fast, efficient access to the Internet while at the same time appealing specifically to the Waitrose customers’ ethical mindset by sharing all its profits between 4 major charities.

Users of Waitrose.com Broadband will be able to surf the net with even more speed and efficiency whilst remaining secure in the knowledge that every penny they spend will go to directly to good causes. Waitrose distributes all profits from the service to four major charities selected by its customers: Prince's Trust, Macmillan Cancer Relief, British Heart Foundation and British Red Cross.

Offering free connection and a half price modem (a saving of over £72) and with access up to 10 times faster than a standard connection, the launch of Waitrose.com Broadband will make Waitrose the first UK supermarket to advance its online offering to match industry developments. In addition Waitrose.com Broadband will provide all the quality and service customers have come to expect from Waitrose.

For a competitive monthly fee of £27.99 Waitrose.com Broadband users will have the added bonus of a free 24-hour telephone technical support. The service offers unlimited access with no connection time or usage restrictions. In addition they will benefit from unlimited email addresses, free 100 MB of webspace for their own website as well as free anti-virus and anti-spam protection for incoming emails and 50MB of free email storage space.

Peter Burns, Internet Marketing Manager for Waitrose, said: "Waitrose.com Broadband offers an unparalleled service for internet users. With Waitrose.com Broadband, users can access the internet faster than ever before and still have the peace of mind of knowing they have access to technical support without having to pay expensive telephone charges for support. As an added bonus, every penny of our profits goes to four major UK charities."
