Independent Focus Group Concludes Ofcom Review Is Advancing The Market
Telefónica UK Ltd. yesterday hosted an industry focus group chaired by Stephen Speed, director broadband, DTI. The debate highlighted the importance of a competitive framework in the UK and the critical role to be played by local loop unbundling (LLU), in light of the recent Ofcom decisions.
Joining Telefónica UK on the panel were Ofcom, UKCTA, BT Wholesale and Energis. Following the event, James Waterworth, regulatory and government affairs manager, Telefónica UK, commented, "The panel recognised that only efficient and responsive broadband operators will survive and thrive on the increasingly level playing field Ofcom is creating.
"As a recent UK broadband market entrant, we welcome Ofcom's on-going efforts to create a fairer and truly competitive marketplace in which only those providers with the necessary reach, resources and attention to customer needs will win[jm1]."
He continued, "There is still much to be done on the regulatory side and Telefónica UK will be actively engaging with Ofcom to achieve an open broadband market in the weeks and months to come."
