Freedom2Surf Launch £14.99 1Mbps!

Posted: 08th Jun, 2004 By: MarkJ
UK ISP Freedom2Surf has launched one of the cheapest 1Mbps broadband ADSL packages to date, costing just £14.99 per month. Admittedly the service is capped to 1Gb per month, yet those on a budget are unlikely to argue:

Freedom2Surf (www.freedom2surf.net), one of the UK's leading independent ISPs, has today announced that the price of broadband access in the UK has hit a new low, with the launch of a mega-fast 1mb package available for an incredible £ 14.99 a month.

The updated pricing takes effect immediately with the aim of encouraging users to switch from dial-up Internet access and further accelerate broadband growth in the UK. The price reduction has been made possible in response to the decision by BT to cut the wholesale price of broadband charged to ISPs and the emergence of a new metered pricing structure for broadband Internet access.

Freedom2Surf has been at the forefront of the recent trend of falling broadband prices and these changes make Freedom2Surf Connect Lite among the best value broadband services available. Connect Lite includes a monthly 1GB traffic allowance, providing the capability to download approximately 200 MP3 music tracks, 650 short videos or 100 large software programmes.

As part of the changes, another new package - Freedom2Surf Connect - has been launched which includes a monthly 5GB traffic allowance for more experienced broadband users who require greater capacity for downloading content. The Connect package has a 1mb connection, and is available for only £ 19.99 per month. Analysis by Freedom2Surf shows that on average over 95 per cent of broadband users use less than 5GB per month while surfing the Internet.

Subscribers to both new services can check their level of data usage through the members area on the Freedom2Surf website. They also have the option of purchasing an extra 1GB traffic allowance for just £ 2.99 per month, allowing users extra capacity to download a movie or a large programme, for example. Both packages include 20 email addresses and 50mb of webspace, and come with just a one-month minimum contract.

As an added incentive, Freedom2Surf will also be offering a £ 10 cash payment to existing ADSL broadband customers who switch to Freedom2Surf Connect from another ISP.

Chris Panayis, Managing Director of Freedom2Surf, said: "Freedom2Surf has always been at the forefront of efforts to reduce the price of broadband, and our new packages are designed to give customers real value for money. Price has always been the limiting factor to mass consumer broadband take-up. With new pay as you go broadband services available at speeds of 1mb for just £ 14.99 a month, we believe packages like Freedom2Surf Connect and Connect Lite signal the death of dial-up"
