It appears that a severe network problem at Ilford is affecting many ADSL users this evening, myself included. The following service update is taken from Pipex, however other ISP's are also affected.
BT have informed us of a major loss of service at their Ilford ATM node. This has resulted in a drastic reduction of network connectivity for all ADSL users. Some connections are still operating but are now running at maximum capacity and so will experience slow speeds. However, many users will be unable to connect to the network as there is insufficient capacity available on the remaining links.
BT are not yet able to give a time to fix but their engineers are working on the problem as a top priority.
The problem seems to have occurred at around 8pm tonight and is still affecting many users. If we find out any more details we will let you know.
Update 21:35 1/4/03
The problem is affecting many other ISP's and we have found this update on Nildram's support pages:
We have just received a progress report from BT to say that an engineer is now on site. Current anticipated clear time is 22:16
Update 00:03 2/4/03
BT repaired the fault at around 22:15, However many users may still experience problems connecting or slow connections due to a massive inbalance of traffic. The problem affected all ISP's whose BT Central Pipe connections are supplied via the Ilford centre.
