The Wireless World Forum has reported that the use of UK mobile phone based data (Internet, MMS etc.) services in the UK is set to increase by 75% between 2002 and 2004 to 4Billion Euros:
The report also predicts that the number of mobile users in the UK will increase by 1m between 2003 and 2004, and that mobile penetration rates in the UK will increase to 88.6 per cent in 2004, where the market will reach saturation.
The average number of SMS sent per user in 2002 was 0.92 messages per day; this will increase to 1.08 in 2004. The total number of pre-pay subscribers in the UK will decline from a 2002 peak of 35.5m to 32.6m in 2004.
Data as a percentage of total ARPU will increase from an average of 12 per cent in 2002 to more than 19 per cent in 2004.Wonderful stuff, now if only the operators could get their act together and launch better applications and cheaper GPRS services. More @
