Trevor Sherman is today being heralded as a 'broadband hero' for sucessfully bringing a hi-speed broadband service (wireless) to West Haddon and Winwick for just £27 per month (
HERE).
There's also a local installation survey and setup fee of £100 to be paid, not to mention that you must agree to the initial 12 month contract. Still, for a 2Mbps service that's more than fair.
The ISP itself was constructed with the help of a broadband satellite link provided by Aramiska, thus gamers may be displeased, but then you cant have everything:
Basically we've got a satellite dish permanently linked to the internet (supplied by Aramiska). This bandwidth is distributed around the village using 802.11b wireless technology (supplied by Hotwireless Ltd). The signal is distributed around the village by repeater aerials to give the required coverage.
To connect with your PC you need a USB connection or a spare PCI slot - the kit required is included in your setup fee. Once we've done a survey and supplied you with the kit - you're part of the network. The Northamptonshire based service follows a similar one setup by
Village Broadband.
