UPDATE: Added some extra stats. The latest statistics from UK telecoms regulator
Oftel have found that 12.5 million British homes are now online, with 750,000 connecting to the web in the last three months.
Here's a brief summary of some additional home UK Internet access statistics. 50% (47% in May 2003) now have Internet access, 61% have a PC and 90% are satisfied with their ISPs service.
43% use an unmetered dialup connection, with 36% using a standard metered (Local Call Rate etc.) service. The remaining 18% surf using a hi-speed broadband connection (ADSL, Cable etc.):
The regulator estimates that around one million dial-up customers are likely to upgrade to broadband within the next year.
Oftel also compared prices for internet services across Europe and found that the cost of both dial-up and broadband connections were cheaper in the UK than in other countries.Quite a marked change from this time two years ago. More @
