In an effort to compete with rivals, ISP AOL UK has struck a new deal with RealNetworks to provide its broadband enabled members with video content from the new series of Pop Idol:
The content will be free to AOL Broadband subscribers, and will include footage of auditions, performances from this year's semi-finalists and finalists, as well as behind-the-scenes exclusive coverage.
AOL admitted to NMA that these content deals will continue in order to attract new broadband subscribers and dissuade its existing customers from switching to a rival ISP.
Chris Condron, head of broadband content at AOL UK, said, 'It's really attractive for us to offer this content for free to AOL members. There will definitely be a lot more deals of this kind, especially within the reality TV area, which lends itself well to broadband content.'
Nice idea, although in a market more concerned with speed and cost, content may not be the area that AOL should be looking at. More @ NewMediaZero.
