GX Networks Offers Safer Surfing

Posted: 30th Sep, 2003 By: MarkJ
UK telecoms operator and ISP GX Networks (formerly known as Zipcom) has today announced the availability of its new 'Edusurf' project, which is designed to help make school based Internet surfing a safer prospect:

GX Networks to help schools and parents control child Internet access

GX Networks, the telecom network operator and provider of business broadband solutions, has entered into a groundbreaking project, called Edusurf, with Comtec Education Plc and intY, to enable schools and parents to provide more controlled access to the Internet.

The Edusurf project, accredited by the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta), is a complete managed service approach to school ICT devised by Comtec Education. In order to provide this service to schools Comtec Education will rely upon GX Networks' reliable Internet connectivity services and intY's hardware. The Becta accreditation is part of a scheme enabling schools to purchase services from accredited suppliers that meet and maintain specific standards in content filtering and service performance.

Edusurf provides hardware and software, including the provision of intY's Exoserver, that will enable schools to filter emails and Internet websites that pupils access. This can include 'black' lists of websites that pupils are banned from visiting or 'white' lists of websites that pupils are only allowed to visit. These lists are updated on a regular basis. The project also provides on-site technical support.

Paul Kennedy, General Manager of Comtec Education comments, "As a result of the Modernising Government Agenda, schools' approach to educating the young has completely changed. The Internet is now seen as an essential tool for learning. Although this approach may revolutionise children's education it opens up an avenue for misuse. The Edusurf project enables parents to have peace of mind that their children are not using the Internet for adverse purposes.

GX Networks was incremental in helping us achieve Becta accreditation. It was the obvious choice due to its reliability and quick data network.
"

A dynamic, leading-edge provider of competitive high performance, affordable voice, data, conferencing, Internet and E-commerce connectivity solutions throughout the UK, GX Networks is committed to next generation technological advances.

A provider of integrated voice and data connectivity solutions, GX Networks makes communication simple for business, by offering a complete customer focused service to help businesses communicate effectively, whatever their need.
