EU Broadband Connections Double

The European Commissioner, Erkki Liikanen, has today touted broadband by stating that hi-speed links have doubled in the past year:
"The growth rates in broadband are about 100 percent per year at the moment and there seems to be no slowing down," he said. "A feeling of change is in the air."
According to the text of a speech given at the closed-door meeting in Brussels, Telecom Italia TLIT.MI Chairman Marco Tronchetti said connections across the bloc neared 20 million lines in the third quarter with 41% of line provisions coming from new entrants.
