Last year Ofcom published new guidelines on the additional charges levied by UK broadband ISPs, which are often hidden away deep within the small print and cause many consumers to be unaware of their existence (
Ofcom Offers Guidelines on Hidden ISP Charges). Communications Providers were subsequently given until 1st April 2009 to make any necessary changes to their Terms and Conditions (T&C's).
Today Ofcom has finally opened an enforcement programme to officially investigate compliance with the
Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regulations 1999 act in relation to Additional Charges. Ofcom will take enforcement action as appropriate where they find that CPs are not complying with the Regulations.
