UK ISP TalkTalk ( The Carphone Warehouse ) has attempted to deal another blow to Tiscali's beleaguered broadband customer base by encouraging them to switch on to its
Essentials Phone and Broadband package via the offer of a bill credit worth £50.
The move follows several days of controversy last week when a broadband comparison site warned about the doubt over Tiscali's future and urged customers to leave (
original news). Tiscali promptly responded with a warning about possible legal action, forcing the site to retract its comment with an apology.
The
myTalkTalk Essentials Phone and Broadband package costs £6.49 per month and includes speeds of up to 8Mbps with a 40GB monthly download limit and 18 month contract. There's also a free wireless router, free technical support (from a TalkTalk line), unlimited phone calls to UK landlines in the evenings and weekends and free local daytime calls (from 1st May 2009).
TalkTalk will apply a credit of £50 to the customer's first bill; this is a sum equivalent to their connection fee and three months call plan for phone and broadband. All customers continue to pay line rental of £11.25 per month just like BT.
