Griffin Internet has confirmed that it will be one of several UK providers taking part in BT's initial trials of future Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) technology. The service aims to deliver fibre optic broadband download services at up to 40Mbps+ (2Mbps upload) to existing homes and businesses.
The Thinkbroadband confirmation reminds us that initial trials are due to begin on 1st July and will involve around 49 street cabinets. FTTC technology links street cabinets back to BTs central exchanges via faster fibre optic cables, while the "
last mile" into your home will be handled by VDSL2 technology over the existing copper wire.
BT recently revealed a full list of local UK telephone exchange locations where, from early 2010, its new FTTC services will become available from (
