UK TV broadcaster,
Channel4, has announced that its back catalogue of programmes will be made available to watch online for FREE via its web-based 4oD (Channel4 Video-on-Demand) broadband Internet TV (IPTV) service. From July everything from Father Ted (I love that show) to Shameless will be viewable online.
Channel4 will be one of the first UK broadcasters to make such a move, which in total equates to about 10,000 programmes or 4,000 hours of archived material. Sadly this decision will only cover UK content and USA shows, such as Fraiser, Friends or ER, will not be available to watch.
The new content will present a challenge for the BBC’s comparable
iPlayer, which is more of a catch-up service and only displays shows for up to seven days after they air.
