The latest statistics from comScore show that the total number of videos viewed online in the UK during April 2009 grew 47% versus one year ago to 4.7 billion videos. Naturally Google (YouTube) dominated the top 10 sites with 2.4 billion videos viewed, an increase of 58% versus a year ago. BBC sites, such as via its popular iPlayer service, came a notable but distant second.

The increase of nearly 50% within a single year is huge and will ultimately require broadband ISPs to invest more money into their networks. Customers should be mindful of their usage and upgrade to a more flexible package if their existing one fails to keep pace, though it might cost a little extra but this is only natural.
