The Carphone Warehouse ( TalkTalk , AOL UK , Opal etc. ) has posted a new Interim Management Statement revealing its latest first quarter trading update. Not including May's recent £236m Tiscali UK acquisition (too soon), TalkTalk managed to add 47,000 (net) new broadband subscribers and push its total from 2.8m to 2.85m.
Positive growth aside, the +47,000 figure still pales in comparison to the +74,000 net adds of TalkTalk's previous quarter, thus representing a significant slowdown.
Charles Dunstone, CEO, said:
“TalkTalk Group is trading well, in line with our expectations. We added 47,000 net new customers to our broadband base and average customer spend is up 5% year-on-year. We migrated a further 59,000 customers onto our own network in the quarter and we now have 79% of all our broadband customers on our unbundled network, leveraging the superior economics that it gives us.
TalkTalk’s leading value proposition and strong customer service clearly continue to resonate strongly in today’s marketplace, and churn has declined significantly year-on-year and remains low.”
TalkTalk completed the acquisition of Tiscali's UK operations on Friday 3rd July and will include Tiscali's customer numbers together with their own in the Company's Q2 trading statement due for release on 8th October 2009.
