o2 logo Mobile operator and ISP O2 has agreed a new five year managed services agreement with BT. The deal will allow O2 to enter into the UKs business market with fixed land-line voice and broadband services, complementing its existing range of popular consumer products. The move should save O2 some cash too because it will not have to construct its own self-build solution.
The Deal Outline:
O2 will offer customers its own branded broadband and fixed-line telephony services, together with an array of key support services provided by BT Wholesale. BT Wholesale will design, manage and operate a dedicated order portal and service management centre for the provision of orders by the O2 sales teams. All end user contact services and end user billing will be provided by O2, with the BT Wholesale service management centre delivering second line help desk support.
O2 currently has 457,000 fixed land-line broadband customers (Q2 - June 2009 figures), although its existing packages are predominantly more designed for mass market (residential / home) consumer requirements.

Ronan Dunne CEO of O2 in the UK, said:

“This is an exciting deal for O2 allowing us to further enhance our product range to business. Working with BT Wholesale now gives us the opportunity to offer our business customers a true end to end service which incorporates fixed line services as well as mobile, data and unique consultancy that we already provide. BT Wholesale proved to be the right partner for us and their experience in providing this service in the UK will help us deliver quality O2 branded products and services.”

It's understood that the deal has been in the works for almost an entire year, although we do not yet know when the first related business products are due to surface. We suspect that they will have something to offer before the end of this year.
