The West Country council of Torbay has just gained a newly upgraded high capacity broadband connection from UK ISP Eclipse Internet . The 30Mbps
Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) leased line is an upgrade from the council’s old 4Mbps DIA, and can be increased to 100Mbps.
Andy Margetts, Torbay Council IT operations manager, said:
“Having this extra capacity is essential to the council’s contingency plans in case of a sudden increase in home-working. We already have the IT systems in place, but because most home-working would be via the internet we needed more broadband capacity.”
The new connection will be used to provide staff with more home-working capacity. Torbay Council, a unitary authority, is responsible for providing services to 130,000 residents in Brixham, Paignton and Torquay.
