uSwitch study has revealed that the average Brit is spending a whopping 30 hours a week online. On a normal working day Brits spend 2 hours online for work purposes and 3 hours for pleasure and leisure – only a third (33%) don’t use the Internet at work. The average person goes online for 3 hours a day at the weekend, which rises to 8 hours for 19% of 18 - 24 year olds.
So what are we all doing online? Well 93% of the population now shops on the Internet, with 79% spending up to 2 hours a week doing so. In addition just 18% say they don't use their bank's online services. Over a quarter (28%) spend between 1 and 2 hours a week banking online while nearly half (44%) spend up to an hour a week.
Social networking is another of the main reasons why Brits now spend so much time online. A quarter (25%) of adults say they need to use sites such as Facebook and Twitter at least once a day, yet only 27% of people think that social networking is a good thing.
