Broadband provider TalkTalk ( AOL , Tiscali etc.) is offering new customers a staggering 12 months of FREE broadband and phone (line rental) service when they subscribe to a lengthy new 24 month contract (returning to £18.48 per month thereafter). There is also a one-off connection fee of £29.99 to pay.
The promotion itself is actually being carried on the front page of parent company The Carphone Warehouse and the offer includes an 'up to' 8Mbps download speed, 40GB usage allowance, free wireless router, unlimited evening and weekend calls to UK landlines and unlimited local calls.
Some 80% of UK homes are currently covered by TalkTalk's unbundled phone and broadband network. In related news the former head of Orange UK (until 2004), John Allwood, has been appointed to TalkTalk’s board. In recent years Orange has not been terribly successful with broadband in the UK market, with many customers choosing to jump ship; ironically often to TalkTalk.
