Community network specialist Fibrestream UK (NextGenUs) has officially started digging the duct work for two rural villages in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire;
Ashby de la Launde and
Bloxholm. This will enable the area to benefit from 100Mbps fibre optic ( FTTH ) based broadband internet access services.
The news that
Ashby de la Launde and
Bloxholm would get Fibre-to-the-Home services broke via ISPreview.co.uk at the start of this month. At the time Fibrestream had yet to be given the green light, although Friday 11th June 2010 saw a major milestone as the digging finally began (video below - for those who enjoy watching roadwork's).
The effort is impressive considering that the project itself only announced formal plans to proceed approximately one week ago. Further details are expected to be revealed in the near future and you can find more information about the development in our original news item. Fibrestream and its partners have helped to bring similar services to other parts of the UK too, including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in Humber (
