Wireless ISP
Airband Community Internet Ltd has unveiled the expansion of its UK Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) broadband ISP network to include Ludlow (Shropshire), Leominster (Herefordshire) and Tenbury Wells (Worcestershire). The project was officially announced at the start of July and aims to benefit 40,000 people and more than 2500 businesses in the region.
Peter Pawsey, Executive Chair of the Rural Regeneration Zone, said earlier this month:
"This Ludlow, Leominster and Tenbury Well ‘triangle’ has traditionally been prone to unreliable services and, in some cases, no provision whatsoever. The offer will start immediately with a marketing drive to businesses being rolled out over the next two weeks. By 2013, we would envisage more than 250 companies successfully signed up, making the project self-sufficient in its own right."
The scheme will make use of a £200,000 investment from the
Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) and is expected to offer speeds of 4Mbps, going all the way up to 10Mbps; bespoke services of up to 1Gbps will also be available. The entry-level
Home Worker package costs £25 per month and offers download speeds of 4Mbps (1Mbps upload) on a low 1:20 contention.
It's understood that the service will rollout from October 2010 and should be available to the whole region by the end of this year. We were a bit slow with spotting this news at the start of July but credit to Thinkbroadband for reminding us.
