A new
Opinium Research survey of over 1,500 adults in the UK about their thoughts on the latest in technology has shown only tepid support for the Project Canvas joint venture, which is developing an "
open standard" for putting UK broadband television services directly into homes via ISPs and IPTV set-top-boxes (STB).
The study found that only 35% of adults believe Project Canvas is a good idea, with 51% of those waiting to see if it catches on before buying it and 19% said they were usually one of the first of their friends to buy new technology.
In addition, despite Video on Demand (VoD) having the highest awareness rate of 83%, 28% of adults are still not sure about the idea/service. The survey also reported that 51% of adults believe Google TV is a good idea and 43% believe Apple TV v2 is a good idea.
We note that 35% of adults thought Google Cloud Computing is a good idea, although admittedly 59% didn't even know what it was. We can't help but wonder how many of the respondents knew what Project Canvas is, although apparently Opinium didn't ask that  .
