Several UK ISPs and Mobile Broadband providers won heavy praise at least nights
2010 Top10.com Broadband Awards. In particular TalkTalk was named '
Best Broadband & Home Phone' provider and also managed to scoop '
Best Home Broadband Package' for its
Essentials product.
Few would have felt left out, with the awards somehow managing to give a special gong to almost everybody. Virgin Media gained
Fastest Home Broadband, Sky Broadband won '
Best Broadband & TV' and PlusNet got '
Best Value Home Broadband' but it didn't stop there.
The awards, held in the glitzy
Paramount Club at the top of
Central London’s iconic
Centre Point building, were hosted by
Robert Llewellyn (Kryten in the BBC2 sitcom
Red Dwarf).
Other Top10.com Winners
Broadband Innovation - BT (for its fibre optic BT Infinity package).
Best Customer-Rated Home Broadband - O2 .
Best Customer Benefits - Orange .
Fastest Mobile Broadband - Vodafone .
Best Value Mobile Broadband - Three (3) .
Top10.com claims that the BT Infinity product offers "
super-fast fibre optic broadband up to 100Mb", which is not correct. BT has yet to even start the commercial rollout of related FTTP technology. At present its best download speed is 'up to' 40Mb via FTTC .
We would of thought that a fibre optic broadband developer, such as the i3 Group (Fibrecity), would have made a better winner for Innovation; or in fact any number of smaller and more innovative ISPs from Vtesse to Fibrestream. Unfortunately the awards only selected from a tiny list of UK broadband providers, usually just the big boys.
