A UK based Satellite internet provider,
Avonline, is aiming to shake-up the market by announcing a significant price cut to its 3.6Mbps (384Kbps upload speed)
Eutelsat Tooway based broadband packages.
As part of a limited special offer, new subscribers will be able to take
Avonline's BASIC package, which comes with a
2.4GB monthly usage allowance, for just £19.99 inc. VAT per month. By comparison some rivals continue to charge over £35 for the same service.
Craig Roberts, Avonline’s Broadband Services Manager, said:
"We are always looking at new ways to make our Tooway Broadband Service more affordable for potential customers and this new offer is aimed at those who prefer a lower monthly service charge rather than a reduced initial installation fee."
The normal hardware and installation price of £749 has also been reduced to £649 and, as part of a second offer, customers can choose to pay the normal price of £24.99 per month and get the total setup fee for even less (£575). However at the time of writing the deal was only open to 58 more subscribers.
The
Tooway service, which we first detailed back in April 2009 (
original news), also has the ability to deliver voice over satellite telephony services ( VoIP ) and now has the option of receiving
Freesat HD digital TV services from the same dish.
However do remember that Satellite is far from perfect and suffers from small usage allowances, slow upload speeds and high latency. The next generation of faster services are also set to appear in Q1-2011, which might be worth waiting for.
