A Kent-based UK
Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) ISP,
VFast, has announced that they are currently testing a
100Mbps (Megabits per second) capable service and will be contacting selected customers in
Thanet,
Maidstone and
Kingshill to take part in initial trials.
VFast, which operates a network covering some
1,000+ square miles, uses WiMAX class equipment to deliver most of its service. The operator has long claimed that it could roll-out 100Mbps to end users when demand increased and that time appears to have finally arrived.
VFast Statement (Tuesday):
"Kings Hill in West Malling Kent, have today received an upgrade to the VFast network after new Fibres have been commisioned into the core PoP and Airmax enabled on the wireless network. Customers are seeing average download speeds above 30Mbit’s with some being monitored exceeding 45Mbit. This further strengthens VFast’s commitment to providing high speed broadband to area’s that currently suffer from poor connectivity from exchanges."
VFast can also offer traditional ADSL based services to residential customers in addition to its WiMax class internet solutions. The VMax ADSL service offers speeds of up to 8Mbp anywhere in the UK starting from only £19.99 per month!
Residential customers in Kingshill currently pay a setup fee of £99 for the installation and £24.99 per month service rental to receive WiMAX download speeds of up to 10Mbps (2Mbps upload). This includes email accounts, personal webspace and unlimited usage.
