UK ISP Eclipse Internet has today launched its new
Bonded DSL service, which allows customers to
link several standard DSL (ADSL2+ etc.) broadband lines together to make a single superfast connection. As you might expect this product is targeted more towards business customers and not home users.
Eclipse bills its new product as being "
a cost effective alternative to Leased Line solutions", which isn't exactly a fair comparison. Leased Lines provide a dedicated, SLA supported, private circuit and DSL ( ADSL2+ etc. ) services generally deliver less reliable contended connectivity.
Prices start
from £70 +vat per month for 2 bonded broadband lines, although you can bond 4 together for £140. On top of that there's also a £50 connection fee (router), which applies per line. You'll also have to pay out an additional monthly cost of £20 if you want a 50GB (GigaByte) usage allowance, which rises to £50 for the top "
Unlimited" tier.
Eclipse hasn't officially announced the new product yet, though it can be found on their website (
http://www.eclipse.net.uk/bonded-dsl). Bonded DSL can also be ordered and installed within 10 days. Rival ISP Be Broadband has a similar 44Mbps service (2 lines), which comes with "
unlimited" (FUP) usage by default, for £66.38 per month.
Both services have a 12 month contract and neither of the prices includes the cost of the necessary telephone line rental from BT.
