Home and business ISP Demon Internet UK (THUS Group, Cable and Wireless) has
unceremoniously scrapped its "
free"
DFax 'Fax to Email' service from their range of Home Office and Business Demon Broadband packages. The ISP will not be providing an alternative.
It's understood that some customers had recently been experiencing problems with the service, such as
intermittent availability, which caused Demon to instigate a review and eventually resulted in today's outcome.
Demon Internet Statement on DFax
"After looking into this issue we concluded that the service will have to be withdrawn, with immediate effect, as the network infrastructure it is provided over no longer meets the levels of stability, security and service we expect for our customers.
We have looked into alternative services, but were unable to identify a viable replacement in line with the development of our products, services and network going forward."
Frustrated customers have now been left with no other choice but to transfer the 0870 number used for DFax to a new provider using a process called 'Porting'. The service will officially be decommissioned after Friday 29th April 2011.
However, Demon has suggested that
Sweet Telecom, another THUS business partner, may be able to assist with porting numbers and providing an alternative service.
