Broadband.co.uk has released its latest anecdotal monthly consumer broadband ISP internet speed testing results for the past month of April 2011, which saw the
average UK download speed rise to hit
7.150Mbps after recording 7.088Mbps in March 2011. The
average upload speed has also increased over the same period to achieve
0.872Mbps, which is up from 0.828Mbps last month.
The fastest ISP of them all continues to be cable operator Virgin Media , which delivers average download speeds that are
twice as fast (13.231Mbps) as its nearest DSL based competitor Eclipse Internet (6.564Mbps). However, both O2 ( Be Broadband ) and TalkTalk have shown some noticeable improvements in download speed.

As for upload speeds, Virgin Media remains king and even managed to improve its performance from 1.351Mbps last month to 1.486Mbps now. Eclipse Internet appears to have lost some of its performance and AOL has been replaced at the bottom of both lists by Orange UK, which takes the
worst performance crown.
