The BT Vision IPTV package, which uses BT's broadband ISP connectivity to help deliver
on-demand UK video and television content directly into homes, has added the famous BBC iPlayer catch-up TV service to its platform.
The move replaces BT's previous solution through its
TV Replay service, which contained a considerably smaller selection of BBC programmes. TV Replay itself will continue to offer catch-up services for content from
ITV,
Channel 4 and
five.
Marc Watson, BT-Retails CEO of TV and Online Services, said:
"The launch of BBC iPlayer on BT Vision adds to the enormous range of quality entertainment already available to our customers. We are really excited to be partnering with the BBC to bring BBC iPlayer to our customers."
There is
no charge to customers for watching shows through iPlayer on BT Vision because the content is produced by funding from the existing
TV Licence fee. The new service itself should give BTV customers the opportunity to select from over 400 hours of BBC programmes, including
The Apprentice,
EastEnders,
Top Gear and more than 1,000 hours of radio programmes.
BT Vision itself gives customers up to 50 Freeview TV and 20 radio channels as standard and includes video recording capabilities. Customers can also watch thousands of US and UK TV shows, blockbuster and classic films, kids' shows, music videos, sport on demand.
Options for the
Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 channels plus ESPN and films in HD and 3D are also available. Customers can choose how they want to pay for BT Vision; they can watch unlimited shows with pay monthly or via a pay-as-you-go system.
Prices typically start from just £18 per month (+£10 phone line rental), which includes an 'up to' 20Mbps broadband connection, free connection, BT Vision and free weekend calls. A separate "
Unlimited" BT Vision, broadband and anytime calls service can also be bundled with a new superfast 40Mbps FTTC broadband connection from £40 per month.
