BT has today released its latest financial results to 30th June 2011 (Q2) and revealed that their
retail broadband ISP subscriber based had increased by +141,000 (net additions) between Q1 and Q2-2011 to reach a total of
5,832,000 (this represents a 37% share of the total UK DSL and LLU market of 16.0m). The figures are
down on previous quarters, with BT originally adding +188k during Q4-2010 and +162,000 in Q1-2011.
The big news is that BT's new generation of superfast 'up to' 40Mbps FTTC broadband services are now available to
5 Million UK homes and businesses (premises). BT also added +71,000 customers to its related BT-Infinity product, around 50% more than in Q1-2011. BT's retail customer base currently stands at
over 200,000 superfast broadband subscribers (up from 144,000 in Q1-2011).
BT's CEO, Ian Livingston, commented:
"We continue to make progress towards delivering our financial, operational and growth goals.
We grew profit before tax by 20% at the same time as investing in the future of the business. Our share of DSL broadband net additions was 56%. Our super-fast broadband network has now passed over 5m premises and the customer base has almost trebled in the last six months. BT Global Services is making further progress in high growth economies and secured its largest ever contract in Latin America."
Elsewhere the
BT Vision IPTV service (broadband TV) had +23,000 net additions in the quarter (down from +40k in Q4-2010 and +30k in Q1-2011) and their customer base currently stands at 598,000. This might appear to be a slowdown but in fairness the uptake of BTVision has been like a yo-yo for the best part of the last two years.
