The UK
Solicitors Regulatory Authority (SRA) has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that
Andrew Crossley, the boss of a hugely controversial and now defunct solicitors firm known as ACS:Law UK, will face his
substantive hearing in front of the
Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) during the week commencing
16th January 2012.
ACS:Law sent thousands of "
bullying" letters, many of which demanded big settlement payments, to those accused of having abused their broadband ISP connections for "
illegal"
internet copyright infringement (
piracy). The SRA believes that Crossley "
acted without integrity" while attempting to extort money from those it threatened in order to "
take unfair advantage" (
here). ACS:Law's methods also relied upon unreliable IP address based evidence.
