Popular ISP Be Broadband has reportedly stopped selling their "
16 Static IPs" upgrade option, which cost an additional £19.91 per month, alongside their top end
Pro package.
The Pro service, which is aimed at heavy users and professionals, costs £27 per month (12 month contract, free connection, free router) and offers download speeds of up to 24Mbps (2.5Mbps uploads) with "
unlimited" usage (FUP). It comes with 1
Static IP address but customers can upgrade to get 4, 8 or 16.
Most big ISPs assign a
Dynamic IP address to your connection each time you go online, which changes when you reconnect. By contrast a Static IP will always stay the same and is thus useful for running websites or servers from your home or office computer(s).
At the time of writing the option, which isn't likely to have been taken by many customers anyway, is still being displayed on BE's site. The
BE Usergroup claims that no firm reason has been given for the suspension.
