Internet and phone provider TalkTalk ( AOL UK ) has today released the results from its latest
Look Who's Talking (no relation to the film) survey, which discovered that
10.7 million UK people still use a phone to call friends and family every week. Mobile and home phones were also found to be the most popular way (40% and 35% respectively) of doing this, while
Facebook was the least popular (22%).
Mark Schmid, Spokesperson for TalkTalk, said:
"In an age where the rise of social media as a way for people to contact each other is frequently discussed, it’s good to see that verbal communication is still important. In fact, as our research shows, calling from a mobile remains the main way for them to stay in touch with loved ones."
Women were also found to be "
slightly better at staying in regular contact" with those around them than men. Some 10% claimed to contact people either every hour/every day, which compares with 9% for men (still quite close).
