Broadband ISP PlusNet UK has today started a staggered migration of its internet access customers from their current
IronPort based anti-spam / anti-virus email security platform and across to a new solution provided by
Cloudmark.
The Cloudmark service will work in a similar way to the old one but is allegedly more cost effective, better geared towards an ISP environment, offers more control over outbound spam prevention/rate limiting and is easier to scale.
PlusNet Statement
We’ve done our utmost to avoid any ill effects that may arise during the migration, however even with the most ardent of preparation/testing unexpected things can still happen!
You may of course notice a subtle change in the frequency of spam email that you receive. Hopefully this will be for the better though!
Migrating between two different email platforms is an extremely tedious process for any ISP, as TalkTalk found out to its peril last year (
here), and PlusNet will rightly deserve a pat on the back if they manage to do it without causing too many problems.
The ISP hopes to have everybody moved across to the new platform by
Saturday 22nd October and we wish them the best of luck.
