Cable giant Virgin Media UK has today announced the first broadband bundle details of its new
Spotify based
multi-platform music streaming service. In particular new or re-contracting customers taking Virgin's superfast broadband services will be able to enjoy
Spotify Premium free for six months as part of their bundle (a saving of nearly £60).
Existing broadband customers who also take a new pay monthly
Virgin Mobile contract will gain a
three month Spotify Premium subscription as part of their service, representing a saving of nearly £30. Crucially
Spotify will not attract any data charges in the UK via Virgin Mobile.
On top of that Virgin Media is also developing an
exclusive Spotify app for their popular
TiVo service too, which is currently still in development; more details will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Cindy Rose, Virgin Media's Executive Director of Digital Entertainment, said:
"The launch of Spotify on Virgin Media marks a significant milestone for digital entertainment and the way it is enjoyed by consumers. Great digital services are no longer just about fast broadband or the latest TV technology, but increasingly about how people use their services to power and excite their daily lives.
Bringing together Virgin Media services with brilliant entertainment such as Spotify is a core part of our ongoing strategy and we’re excited to be able to lead the way with such a great partnership."
In case you've been living under a rock for the past few years, Spotify is a highly popular service that offers
unlimited music streaming over the internet. It comes in the form of both a restrictive FREE solution and two paid services.
The top Spotify Premium service
normally costs £9.99 a month and adds the ability to store music files locally on your mobile phone, which also means that you can still listen to music when there's no internet connectivity. Improved sound quality, exclusive content and other features are also included.
Virgin Media customers new to Spotify, as well as those already with Spotify accounts, will be able to redeem the offers of a three or six-month extension to their current subscription for no extra cost. Customers who take up the offer but whom don't wish to continue after the free period will revert to the ad-supported Spotify free service.
