The statistical office of the European communities,
Eurostat, has revealed that the use of Mobile Broadband connections by enterprises in the
EU27 countries has
increased significantly from 27% in 2010 to 47% in 2011. The UK saw a similar rise from 36% to 52% over the same period.
By contrast the share of EU27 enterprises having a
fixed broadband connection to access the internet grew from 84% in 2010 to just 87% in 2011 (92% of UK enterprises use fixed line broadband ISP connections). Overall, irrespective of technology choice, 95% of EU27 and UK enterprises were found to have some form of internet access.
Some
69% of EU27 enterprises also have a website (79% in the UK) but only 17% include online ordering / booking and or reservation facilities on that site (22% in the UK), which suggests that many businesses could be missing out on a huge potential for growth.
