Mobile focused operators Orange (
France Telecom) and T-Mobile UK (
Deutsche Telekom), which in 2010 merged under a joint management company called
Everything Everywhere (EE), could be about to take another significant step forward after a report in the
The Times indicated that
both firms could soon be given a single name as part of another major rebrand.
According to The Times, a newly issued
prospectus for a bond issue hinted that the development of a new brand was "
under consideration". It further stated that such a brand would either be as a compliment to or substitute of either "
one or both" the existing brands.
Everything Everywhere officially completed its
branding review last October 2011 and the newspaper claims that this has resulted in a decision to develop a new name. Supporting this is the fact that Everything Everywhere will neither confirm nor deny the report.
An Everything Everywhere spokesperson told PC Pro:"[We] completed the brand review as planned and have agreed with our shareholders the way forward for our brand strategy. Given its commercial sensitivity, further details will not be discussed. At this time, we are maintaining momentum by continuing to focus on both the Orange and T-Mobile brands."
It certainly would not be unexpected for two technically merged companies to complete the picture by adopting a single name (
T-Orange?), although the newspaper report suggests that it would most likely NOT be the groups existing
corporate name (Everything Everywhere). In the meantime Everything Everywhere continues to remain tight lipped about any future announcements.
