Existing customers of Vodafone’s sibling, Talkmobile (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), might finally be getting a “superfast” 4G service after subscribers reported receiving a text message from the operator that promised exactly that.
Talkmobile is currently in the process of controversially closing down their ‘Pay As You Go‘ tariffs (they’re being moved back to Vodafone), which should be completed by 31st August 2017. However those with monthly (contract) plans continue to remain with the operator, albeit restricted to slow 3G connectivity.
Several subscribers have now informed ISPreview.co.uk that they’ve this week received the following text message: “Great news! We’re teaming up with Vodafone to bring you superfast 4G. Stay tuned for more exciting updates” (credits to Sam). We’re attempting to try and get some extra details from Vodafone and will report back when or if they respond.
Customers of Talkmobile have long criticised the provider for being just about the slowest MVNO in the land to adopt 4G, although this may have more to do with being owned by Vodafone than any physical restrictions.
UPDATE 3:57pm
Vodafone has confirmed the upgrade and added that they would be “enabling customers on 4G in batches” starting from this weekend (22nd/23rd July) until 19th August.
