UK ISP Plusnet has updated the discounts on their home broadband plans for new customers, which for example has slashed the monthly price of their top 900Mbps (gigabit) Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) package to just £28.99 per month on a 24-month term. Some packages also now include reward cards (pre-paid Mastercards) worth up to £150.

Network operator Openreach (BT) has today confirmed that they recently started building their full fibre (FTTP) broadband network across 11 pre-planned UK locations and have, separately, also reached a new access agreement with the Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) in Scotland to cover 2,000 flats and apartments.

Mobile operator and broadband ISP Vodafone UK has this morning announced that their internet security feature – Secure Net Home, and smart router technology, Who’s Home, which were previously only available on their premium Pro 3 fixed broadband packages, has been extended to 900,000 customers on their standard broadband packages too.

The BT Group has published their H2 FY26 biannual results, which saw total half year revenues of £9,840m (up from £9,806m in H1) and another quarterly UK decline in Openreach’s broadband lines of -203k (down from -210k in Q3 FY26) – full year losses totalled 825k. But the network operator still grew their full fibre (FTTP) coverage by 2.608 million premises in H2 (vs 2.23m in H1) to total 23m.

Network operator Openreach (BT) and existing charity partner Crimestoppers have today announced that they’ve joined forces with a global leader in metal recycling, EMR, to help combat the rising tide of copper telecoms cable theft on their national broadband and phone network. Total Metal Theft is said to have costed the UK economy £4.3bn in the past decade.

National network access provider Openreach (BT) has today announced that they’ve deployed their 7,000th Electric Vehicle (EV) on UK roads to support their broadband and phone engineers, which is up from around 6,000 in December 2025. Most of the operator’s EVs come from brands such as Ford, Stellantis (e.g. Vauxhall), Toyota, and Renault.

Credible sources have informed ISPreview that UK ISP BT (EE) are preparing to migrate their remaining base of over 20,000 customers on Openreach’s hybrid fibre G.fast “ultrafast broadband” network to the equivalent digital SOGEA (formerly SOGFAST) platform. The change is due to the looming closure of the old analogue phone network (PSTN / WLR).

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has confirmed new closure dates for the two legacy exchanges in Ballyclare (9,500 premises in N.Ireland) and Kenton Road (9,500 premises in London), which were originally due to be switched off on 30th November 2025. The new Network Cease Date for both has now been set back almost a year to 2nd of November 2026.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is getting closer and as part of that Openreach and BT have announced a “UK wide network service protection period” for their national broadband services, which will be in place from 11th June to 19th July 2026. The measures are designed to help mitigate an expected increase in network demand and to avoid changes that may disrupt match viewing.

The State Opening of Parliament – often referred to as the “King’s Speech” – took place today, which once again saw the new UK Government set out their agenda for the coming session. The speech included mentions of several bills related to telecoms network security and broadband connectivity, which we’ve summarised a bit below.

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has just published their latest Q4 FY26 financial results. The figures show that they now have 1.832 million fixed broadband customers (up by 64,000 in Q4 – the same figure as Q3) and a combined mobile base of 28.356 million (down by 263,000).

The UK Government has this morning confirmed that their recent modification to Openreach’s (BT) Call Off 5 contract for Essex and North East England (here) will be the “first Project Gigabit contract to target pockets of poor connectivity in towns and cities“, as well as the countryside. Over 9,500 extra premises in Essex “burdened with older broadband” will benefit from the £8.3m expansion (public subsidy).

Openreach (BT) has today published a huge batch of 238 exchanges (Tranche 24) – covering 1.69 million premises – under their “FTTP Priority Exchange” stop sell programme, which reflects areas where over 75% of premises are able to get full fibre lines and will thus stop selling copper based legacy phone and broadband products (i.e. FTTP becomes the only product option, where it’s available).

The UK government has posted contract modifications for three of Openreach’s Project Gigabit contracts – Call Off 1 (Lancashire, West Berkshire, Staffordshire, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire), Call Off 5 (Essex and North East England) and Call Off 3 (North Herefordshire, North Wales, Shropshire and South West Wales). The move expands their planned deployments of full fibre broadband ISP networks into rural areas.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today moved to help facilitate the closure of the old analogue phone network (PSTN/WLR) in favour of digital (IP-based) alternatives, which they’ve done by making it free for broadband and phone providers to migrate WLR Solus (i.e. voice-only lines) to MPF (fully unbundled) or SOTAP (data-only copper broadband for areas without fibre) lines.

Shropshire-based independent ISP Aquiss has announced the return of its popular 6-month half-price promotion on selected full fibre broadband packages via the Openreach and CityFibre networks. But the promotion will only be available for new customers to take until 30th June 2026.

At the start of 2026 we reported on how West Midlands Police had arrested a gang of three men who were in the process of trying to steal Openreach’s (BT) copper UK broadband and phone cables – worth £50k – from an underground site in central Birmingham (here). Yesterday the Birmingham Crown Court jailed each one for 3 years.
