O2 UK Delivers 100th 4G Mobile Mast for Shared Rural Network

Mobile operator O2 (VMO2) has today hit a key milestone after they rolled out enhanced 4G (mobile broadband) coverage across 100 rural sites as part of their commitment under the £1bn industry-led Shared Rural Network (SRN) programme, which aims to extend geographic 4G cover (aggregate) to 95% of the UK by the end of 2025.

Internet connection testing firm Ookla, which collects its data via the popular Speedtest.net service, recently published their latest Q3-Q4 2023 (H2) study into the performance of 5G based mobile broadband networks in the United Kingdom and found that Three UK continues to deliver the fastest speeds. But performance has declined.

Uswitch 2024 Awards Name Best UK Broadband and Mobile Providers

Uswitch.com has today revealed the winners of their annual 2024 Telecoms Awards event, which among things saw UK ISP Plusnet being named as the best ‘Broadband Provider of the Year’, while CommunityFibre won the best alternative network and Tesco Mobile scooped the win for best mobile ‘Network of the Year’.

On top of that, they’re also introducing symmetrical download and upload speeds as an optional add-on. But initially only for nexfibre areas.

Mobile network analyst firm Streetwave has today published the results of a new real-world benchmark, which examined the mobile operator performance of EE (BT), O2 (Virgin Media), Vodafone and Three UK across the country’s capital city of London. Ofcom has published their latest study of UK consumer complaints for Q3 2023, which names Virgin Media as the worst for attracting the most gripes about fixed broadband, landline phone and pay TV services. Meanwhile, O2, which is part of the same company, attracted the most complaints for Pay Monthly Mobile services.
