EE and Three UK Named Best Mobile Operators for H2 – 2015

RootMetrics has today published their latest biannual report into the reliability, call / text performance and Internet (3G and 4G data) speeds of the United Kingdom’s four primary Mobile Network Operators (MNO), which saw EE pick-up the most wins and Three UK come a more distant second.

Apparently the results are based off 874,586 tests from across the United Kingdom (testing performance during driving, at stationary outdoor locations and at over 1,400 indoor locations), which also involved 24,000 miles of driving.

Otherwise the scoring (RootScore) for each category is presented in a very general way, with 0 being the worst and 100 being the best. Overall EE came out as the highest rated operator and they were followed by Three UK (84.5), Vodafone (78.6) and O2 (76.6). See below for more details.

Scott Stonham, RootMetrics General Manager of Europe, said:

“EE continues to provide the best mobile performance across the UK, but we’re seeing some of the other operators making good improvements across all the different ways we use our mobile phones.

Choosing the mobile operator that’s right for you is not one-size-fits-all. While some people care most about fast mobile internet so they can watch videos or download music without delay, others just want to know that they can reliably make a call or send a text.

Consumers can use this report to make informed decisions based on where they live and how they tend to use their phone.”

Sadly the study made no attempt to separate 3G from 4G performance and we also don’t get any kind of rural vs urban results split. Likewise it would have been good to see how the networks performed, particularly in respect to Mobile Broadband speed, at different times of day (e.g. daytime vs evening) but we don’t get that either.
