Mobile operator FreedomPop, which entered the UK market last year by offering a free 4G mobile SIM with 200MB of data, 200 texts and 200 minutes, has today added a new paid SIM that gives subscribers unlimited calls, texts and 10GB of Mobile Broadband data for just £9.99 per month with no contract.
The operator makes use of Three UK’s national platform via a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement and its freemium business model is based around up-sell, which means that they make their money by predicting that customers will use more than their free SIM offer allows and thus upgrade to a better paid tariff or incur excess use charges.
Normally the network offers four simple tariffs (see below), but the new offer seems to be some sort of enhancement on their old top end premium package (this normally only includes a 2GB usage cap). Also you need to install a special app to manage the text messages and calls.
